Autumn block

The 6-week small-group strength block starts the first Monday of next month — four spaces left.

Private & small-group coaching

Strength that fits the week you actually have.

Brio Dapple is a two-room studio for people who want to lift well, move without nagging aches and keep it going past week three. Sessions are planned around your schedule, not an app's idea of it.

  • Session length
    45 or 60 minutes
  • Where
Studio floor, or the park in summer
  • Open
    Mon–Sat, early starts to evenings

The method

Four steps, and you know exactly what the next six weeks look like.

Nothing here is a mystery. You will see your plan written down, know which lifts you are progressing, and know what happens when a week goes sideways.

  1. 01

    Consult

A short conversation about what you want, what you have tried, and the realistic number of sessions you can protect each week.

    30 minutes · no charge

  2. 02

    Movement check

We screen squat, hinge, push, pull and carry, note any history worth working around, and set honest starting loads.

    First paid session

  3. 03

    Six-week block

A written plan with two or three coached sessions a week, plus one simple thing to do on your own if you want it.

    Plan shared in writing

  4. 04

    Review

We compare notes against the block, decide what to keep progressing, and rewrite the parts that did not suit your week.

    End of every block

Programs

Three ways to train here. Pick the one that matches your week.

Most people start with one and move between them as work, travel or training goals change. Switching between programs mid-block is fine and does not restart anything.

Program 01

One to one

Full attention on your lifts, with loads and cues adjusted inside the session rather than next week.

Format
Coached solo sessions on the studio floor
Best for
Returning to lifting, working around an old injury, or technique you want fixed properly
Session
60 minutes, booked weekly or twice weekly
Includes
Written block, video notes on your main lifts, mid-block check-in
Ask about one to one

Program 02 · most booked

Small group strength

Four people, one coach, one shared plan with individual loads. The reason most members stay past the first block.

Format
Groups capped at four, same slot each week
Best for
Steady progress with company, and a fixed slot you will actually keep
Session
60 minutes, two slots a week in a six-week block
Includes
Block plan, loading sheet, open studio access on Saturdays
Hold a group space

Program 03

Remote plan

For people who travel, train at another gym, or already know their way around a rack.

Format
Written plan plus a fortnightly video review
Best for
Confident lifters who want structure and a second pair of eyes
Session
45-minute reviews, plan refreshed every four weeks
Includes
Equipment-matched plan, lift feedback, one studio session per block
Ask about remote

The coach

I coach lifting the way a good mechanic works: look first, then adjust.

I started Brio Dapple after years of watching people get handed programs written for someone else's body and someone else's calendar. Most of my work is unglamorous — tidying up a hinge, finding a load you can repeat, and making the plan survive a bad week at work.

Qualified in
Personal training and strength & conditioning, with ongoing coursework in coaching older lifters
Usually working with
Desk-bound lifters, people easing back after a break, and parents fitting two sessions into a tight week
Approach
Barbell and dumbbell basics, loaded carries, and enough conditioning to make stairs boring again
What I avoid
Punishment workouts, body-shaming language and plans that only work if your life is empty
Off the floor
Long walks, a stubborn allotment, and far too much interest in coffee brewing

Before you book

The six things people ask at the consult.

I have never lifted a barbell. Will I be out of my depth?

No. Roughly half the people training here had never touched a bar before their first block. Your first two sessions are mostly learning positions with light loads, and nothing gets added until the movement looks repeatable.

I have a dodgy knee and an old shoulder. Can I still train?

Usually yes, with adjustments. Bring any guidance you have from a physio or clinician and we will work inside it — swapping movement patterns, changing range, or loading differently. If something needs clinical input first, I will say so rather than guess.

What happens if I have to cancel a session?

Let me know at least twelve hours ahead and we will move it to another slot in the same week where one exists. Group blocks include two catch-up credits so an unavoidable week does not cost you the block.

Do I need my own kit or gym membership?

Not for studio sessions — bars, dumbbells, kettlebells, benches, mats and chalk are all here. Bring trainers you can stand flat in, something you can move in, and a water bottle. Remote plans are written around whatever equipment you actually have.

How quickly will I notice a difference?

Technique and confidence usually shift within two or three weeks. Strength on the main lifts tends to show across a full six-week block. I would rather set that expectation than promise a transformation on a schedule nobody can guarantee.

Can I train with a partner or a friend?

Yes. Pairs work well in the one-to-one slots and cost less per person than two separate sessions. If you want a group of three or four from the same workplace or family, that can be set up as its own block.

Book a consult

Tell me about your week and I will tell you what is realistic.

The consult is a conversation, not a sales pitch. If what you need is a physio, a different gym or simply a walking habit, I will say that.

  • 01You send this form with a rough idea of your goal and your usable times.
  • 02I reply with two or three consult slots that fit the current timetable.
  • 03We talk for half an hour, and you decide afterwards — no commitment on the call.

Replies go out each evening, Monday to Friday.
